WHAT IS PHYTOTHERAPY?
The power of nature to heal
Phytotherapy is the oldest form of treating diseases in humans and animals.
Traditionally, whole plants were used, such as the bark of Cinchona officinalis (cinquefoil tree), used to combat fevers.
Over time, pharmacy evolved, first by extracting and concentrating the active compounds of plants (in the example given it would be quinine), and later by synthesizing them in laboratories, giving rise to modern medicines.
However, phytotherapy is still prevalent, using whole plants or their extracts. This offers a more holistic approach, as the non-active compounds present in plants work in synergy with the active ingredients, strengthening the body and respecting its natural ability to heal. This principle is based on the "Vis medicatrix naturae" (the healing force of nature), a key idea in Holistic Clinical Phytotherapy and the teachings of Hippocrates.
HOW DOES PHYTOTHERAPY HELP YOU?
The most common conditions that Phytotherapy addresses are usually chronic, those where the patient needs extra or exclusive support to return to a healthy state:
-Anxiety, moderate depression, tension and headaches, mood and sleep disturbances
-Low energy, depressed immune system, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia
-Skin problems: acne, eczema, psoriasis, hives
-Bronchial conditions: infections, asthma, cough, common colds, bronchitis
-Immune system: recurrent infections (candida, herpes, sinusitis...), allergies, autoimmune diseases
-Circulatory problems, venous return problems, tired legs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides
-Digestive problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, gas, gastric reflux, gastroduodenal ulcers, intestinal permeability, dysbiosis, diarrhea and constipation, gallbladder congestion
-Gynecological imbalances, menopausal disorders, PMS, irregular periods, pain, bloating and cramps, endometriosis, fibroids, fertility can be promoted
-Urinary system conditions: kidney stones, interstitial cystitis and recurrent infections, prostate problems and altered urinary flow
-Detoxification, fluid retention
-Chronic conditions of the musculoskeletal system, arthritic, muscular, joint and rheumatic pain, inflammation, bruises...
Since Phytotherapy is a supportive therapy for chronic conditions, the continued use of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and other types of medications could be avoided.. The primary objective is to strengthen your own body to heal and protect yourself against diseases.

CLINICAL HERBALISM VERSUS MODERN PHYTOTHERAPY
Holistic modern phytotherapy focuses on scientific evidence, highlighting the «active ingredients» of plants as the basis of their therapeutic action.
Traditional Clinical herbalism's theory expands this view by combining science with empirical experience, using herbal mixtures specifically indicated for each patient, working in synergy to address specific problems. Furthermore, the herbalist not only recommends but also becomes familiar with the plants in their environment, collects them, and learns how to use them safely and effectively.
Holistic Clinical Phytotherapy (FCH, a term I have coined to describe the practice of herbal medicine rooted in traditional Herbalism) views plants as a living WHOLE, not merely as containers of active compounds that interact at the cellular level, whether in vivo or in vitro. The holistic vision of clinical herbalism adds significant value to scientific phytotherapy, raising its professional and practical application to its highest potential..
WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM HOLISTIC CLINICAL PHYTOTHERAPY?
Plants as allies of natural health
It’s important to understand that plants are not drugs, nor do they aim to be. Their way of supporting healing is not immediate, but that does not mean it is ineffective.
In some cases, changes may be noticed within just a few days, but it may also take weeks or even months, depending on the specific issue being treated, how long it has been present, and how deeply rooted it is in the body.
What we do know is that, in this way, the body—together with the plants—takes the time it truly needs to heal, without "pushing or forcing", thereby avoiding the potential side effects or complications that may arise from more aggressive treatments.
This holistic approach not only relieves physical symptoms but also encourages a healthy lifestyle, integrating exercise, proper nutrition, and emotional hygiene as fundamental pillars for a comprehensive recovery.
Just like pharmaceutical medicine, botanical medicine does not guarantee full healing on its own especially if there is no personal commitment from the patient to reshape certain aspects of life that affect their health..With these tools, Holistic Clinical Phytotherapy (FCH) supports the body on its path to balance and
healing.
